What Is a Dental Filling?
A tooth filling is a substance that is placed inside of a decayed tooth so that it can be restored to its regular shape and function. The process of placing dental fillings consists of a dentist removing the decayed material inside of the tooth, thoroughly cleaning the tooth, and filling the cavity with gold, porcelain, or other sorts of materials. Fillings help to keep the tooth from becoming more damaged and decayed.
What Are Tooth Crowns and Dental Bridges?
Crowns for teeth and tooth bridges are permanently attached prosthetic devices that are placed on the teeth with high-bond cement. While appliances like dentures are removable, only your dentist will be able to remove a crown or bridge. A tooth crown is also referred to as a dental cap. This is because it completely covers the affected tooth. A tooth bridge is utilized when you have one or more missing teeth. Bridges are made with a row of pontic teeth. These teeth are then attached to teeth sitting on each side of the gap created by the missing tooth or teeth. Dental implants are often used to stabilize bridges.
Can My Dentist Provide Tooth Fillings, Crowns, and Bridges?

What Are the Different Kinds of Tooth Fillings?
Your tooth filling can be made out of many different types of materials. The exact type of material to be used is determined by your dentist. Many types of fillings blend in with your natural tooth. Some of the most popular options for fillings are porcelain, tooth-colored composite, gold, or silver amalgam.
What Are the Different Kinds of Crowns?
Tooth crowns are also able to be made with different kinds of materials. Popular options include gold alloys, ceramic, and porcelain-fused-to-metal. Front teeth are commonly restored with ceramic crowns, while back teeth are usually restored via the use of gold crowns.
What Are the Different Kinds of Bridges?
The exact type of bridge that you will need to have installed depends on the location of your missing tooth or teeth. A traditional bridge uses a crown that is attached to implants or teeth that are located on both sides of the gap created by the missing tooth or teeth. The pontic teeth are then attached in between the abutment teeth. A cantilever bridge is an alternative type of bridge that is used when a patient has adjoining teeth on only one side. This type of restoration work isn't utilized in the back of the mouth.
What Should I Expect During My Tooth Crown Procedure?
You can expect to have at least two visits to your dentist to have your crown placed. Each portion of the procedure tends to take between 30 minutes to an hour for the dentist to complete. The first visit consists of one of our dentists shaping and preparing the tooth that will receive the crown. An impression will also be taken and a temporary crown will be placed. Once your permanent crown has been created, you will return for your second visit. This visit is where your dentist will cement the crown into place.
What Happens During the Tooth Bridge Procedure?
Most procedures for a dental bridge take place over two appointments. During your first visit, the dentist will remove a small part of the enamel on the abutment teeth. Impressions will then be taken. You'll be given a temporary bridge to wear while the permanent one is being created. Your second visit consists of our dentist placing the bridge and then adjusting them for comfort.
